FOOTBALL ARTIST (1987)
This film focuses on how football has inspired a Yorkshire artist to dedicate himself to creating paintings of the sport. Most of the film consists of the artist verbally describing football’s natural fit as an artistic subject while we watch slow-motion footage of an amateur football game. This film was made as part of the 1980s Yorkshire Television series ‘Calendar Magazine’.
This thought-provoking film offers a rare artistic focus on one of Britain’s favourite sports, football. A Yorkshire artist-in-residence takes us on an interesting personal journey which gets to the heart of his artistic fascination with the sport. The artist specifically highlights his special understanding of the “ritual” nature of football as a fan and an amateur player.
