HULL’S TIDAL WAVE (1921)

A tidal surge in Hull on the evening of 17 December 1921 prompts poignant newsreel pictures of wreckage and recovery. While the incident clearly had a disastrous impact on the city and its residents, these starkly beautiful scenes capture a sense of community spirit, as neighbours clear houses, firemen pump out cellars and children happily dodge puddles in a waterlogged street.
